Almost everyone you talk to these days is very tired of winter and looking forward to spring.

It has been a rough winter because of the ice. First we had rain on top of the snow then we had snow. The weather was warm for a few days and we had a lot of melting which turned to ice when it got cold again. Our alpacas definitely have cabin fever. They are pretty tired of being in the barn all the time. With high winds blowing snow through the barn doors, we have needed to shut up the barn (more often this year) to keep the bedding dry. I noticed one male step out of the barn onto an icy spot. He immediately began to walk very gingerly so not to fall. What smart animals!

We are beginning halter training for our four young males that we are taking to show. However, with all the snow and ice it makes it difficult to walk them around the farm yard. Fortunately, alpacas learn very quickly so we should have them ready for our first show which will be in Owatonna at the 4 Seasons Arena this year, April 5 & 6. The public is welcome and there is no admission charge.

We will be shearing in May again this year. We have hired a shearer again as we will shear at least 32 alpacas. It’s a big job even with help.

Our first crias are due on or around June 16th. We bred three females on the lucky day of 7/7/07 – so….if we are lucky…they will all be girls. This is one of the most enjoyable parts of raising alpacas. It is so much fun to see those little crias running around in the pasture. They can run fast, even when only a day old.

We are continually adding new items to our Shoppe. One of the latest is a Loose Top Sock. These are a perfect fit for anyone that prefers a non-binding sock. This top is especially designed to be non-binding and promote healthy circulation. It is highly recommended for diabetics and comes in four colors. We also have monthly sales and a few close-out items.

Hours are 10:00am – 5:00pm Tuesday – Saturday. If you can’t make it at those times call for an appointment – 507-374-1234 or 507-951-3220. We will be happy to open up at an alternative time.

Happy Spring to all!!
Ray & Sandy
