We are saying goodbye to summer and swinging fast into the fall season. What a summer it was. Our biggest concern was trying to keep the animals cool. We really kept an eye on Jada, our black girl that is due any day now. Thankfully, we didn’t have one case of heat stress.
Our hay crop this year was so bountiful we have already sold two wagons full and are storing one large metal rack at the neighbors because all our sheds are full. We have never seen such high yields since we have been here. Looks like our alpacas will have plenty to eat this winter.
We don’t have any ducks for the first time in years. We had five and some lucky fox discovered them. I do miss hearing the way they vocalize to each other and of course, we loved the way they took care of the bugs.
We have been watching the does as they bring their fawns into the yard to eat acorns. There is a set of twins and a single fawn. They love to play hide and seek around our spruce trees. It’s such fun to watch. The acorns are plentiful this year. In fact it’s difficult walking in the grass under oak trees these days.
Another nature treat we had this year is watching 4 wild turkey hens raise their young. Every day a dawn and every evening just before dusk they would all be in our yard. It’s amazing to see have quickly they grow. Those hens watch their young very closely for predators
